The Group of Eight, or shortly the G8, emerged in 1975 as an international form of governments to discuss the causes of the oil crisis. Representing about 65% of the world economy, these countries consist of Germany, France, Canada, Italy, Russia, Japan, the UK and the USA. Russia's membership was suspended when it annexed Crimea in 2014. Afterwards, this organization, previously called the 'group of eights', started to be called the G7.
This study included the current situation of organic agriculture and the studies on organic agriculture in G8 countries. The findings obtained in this context reveal that organic agricultural activities have spread more rapidly in European and North American countries. The findings obtained in the research revealed that organic agricultural activities are constantly increasing in France, Italy, Germany, the UK, Japan, ABD, Canada and Russia, which are included in the G8 and represent about 65% of the world economy. The fastest and the most planned development in organic agricultural activities are found to be in Italy. The USA ranks first among the countries with the largest share in the organic agricultural products market. It is followed by Germany and France, respectively. In conclusion, organic agricultural activities are constantly increasing in the G8. This can be attributed to the information provided to organic producers and consumers, financial support provided to producers, the product variety, legal protection and planning studies.
