Abstract


The Effect of Emotional Intelligence Levels of School Principals And School Culture on Organizational Citizenship Behavior According To Teachers’ Perceptions

The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship of emotional intelligence levels of school managers and school culture with organizational citizenship behavior according to teachers’ perceptions. Moreover, the effect of emotional intelligence levels of school principals and school culture on organizational citizenship behaviors of teachers were analyzed in this study. The study was conducted on 422 teachers working in 29 official state secondary schools in Yakutiye and Palandöken counties of Erzurum, in 2014-2015 academic years. “Principals Emotional Intelligence Skills Evaluation Scale”, “School Culture Inventory” and “Organizational Citizenship Behavior Scale” were used to gather data. Pearson Correlation and Hierarchical Regression analysis were used in the analysis of the data. According to the obtained evidence through the study, it was found that there is a positive and medium level relationship between the emotional intelligence levels of the school principals and organizational citizenship behavior; a positive and medium level relationship between school culture created in secondary schools and organizational citizenship. Hierarchical regression analysis results showed that the variables of school culture, professional development and common goals and emotional intelligence variables are significant predictors of organizational citizenship behavior. In the light of these findings, various suggestions are presented for school principals, teachers and researchers.
