Abstract


Empirical Study on Health Expenditures and its Determinants

The aim of this study is to investigate the factors affecting the health expenditures by using the panel data method in the 2000-2015 years period of the selected 21 countries. The data used in this study has been taken from official sites such as World Bank and Turkish Statistical Institute. In this study, health expenditures is dependent variable; while GDP, life expectancy, dependent population ratio, inflant mortality rate and rule of law index are independent variables. In the study, panel data analysis method was applied by comparing fixed effects and random effects models to examine these factors related to health expenditures. The results which obtained from the analysis are interpreted these variables how to affect health expenditures. According to the results of the analysis; there was a statistically significant and positive relationship between the health expenditures and GDP per capita, life expectancy at birth, dependent population ratio, rule of law index was found. There was also a statistically significant but negative relationship between health expenditures and infant mortality.
