Abstract


An Analysis of Formation Teacher Candidates’ Attitudes towards Copying and their Level of Teaching Motivation

The main goal of this research is to determine the attitudes of formation teacher candidates towards copying and their teaching motivation level. The research was carried out with students studying pedagogical formation education at Balıkesir University Necatibey Education Faculty during 2016 - 2017 academic year’s summer term. 358 formation teacher candidates participated in the research. In this quantitative and descriptive study, the opinions of the formation teacher candidates were obtained by using the "Attitude Scale Towards Copy" developed by Ay and Çakmak (2015) and the "Teaching Motivation Scale" adapted to Turkish by Güzel-Candan and Evin-Gencel (2015). Arithmetic mean, t-test and one-way analysis of variance were used in the analysis of the data. According to the results, the formation teacher candidates’ attitudes towards the copy were centered on the "I agree" option in the sub-dimension of "moral attitude". So, the participants are against copying and that think that copying is morally wrong. In the "environmental conditions" sub-dimension, which expresses the fact that the environment is suitable for copying, the opinions of the formation teacher candidates are concentrated upon the "I do not agree" option. Formation teacher candidates think that even if they are in a suitable environment, copying is not an appropriate behavior. Formation teacher candidates' teaching motivation level is "I agree a little". The fact that the level of the teacher candidates’ internal motivation is higher than their external motivation can be regarded as a positive and preferred situation. Besides, when the data are analyzed according to the demographic variables, there is a significant difference in the “environmental conditions” sub-dimension according to the gender variable. So; when male formation teacher candidates have the opportunity, the level of copying is higher than female candidates’ level. There are also differences between the opinions of the formation teacher candidates according to their departments.
